A cannabis label packs a lot into a small space. Knowing what each part means helps you buy with confidence and dose accurately.
Potency
- Flower and concentrates show THC (and CBD) as a percentage of weight. A higher number means more potent, but terpenes and your tolerance shape the actual experience.
- Edibles and tinctures show potency in milligrams (mg), usually per serving and per package. This is the number to watch for dosing.
Cannabinoids
Beyond THC, labels often list CBD and “total cannabinoids.” If you want effects without a strong high, look for products with meaningful CBD relative to THC.
Traceability
- Batch / lot number ties the product to its lab test.
- Test or packaging date tells you how fresh it is and when it was tested.
Why it matters
The label is your tool for matching a product to your needs and for dosing safely — especially with edibles. Want to verify the testing behind those numbers? See our lab testing guide, and browse strains and brands in the directory to compare options before you shop.
