Visiting Oklahoma from another medical-cannabis state and wondering if your home card works here? The short answer: not by itself, but you can convert it into a 30-day Oklahoma temporary license in under an hour.

The basics

Oklahoma's 30-day temporary medical marijuana license is designed for out-of-state patients who hold a valid medical cannabis card from another US state. It costs $100, is valid for 30 calendar days from issue, and gives you the same purchase rights as a regular Oklahoma medical patient while you're here.

Who qualifies

  • You hold a valid medical cannabis license from another US state
  • You can prove your home-state residency (your home-state ID is enough)
  • You're 18 or older (or have a caregiver, for minor patients)

States Oklahoma generally accepts: AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, HI, IL, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, ND, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, UT, VA, VT, WA, WV. If your state issues a medical cannabis card with your name, photo, and an expiration date, you can apply.

How to apply

The application is online via the OMMA patient portal. You'll need:

  • A clear photo of your home-state medical card (front and back)
  • A clear photo of your government-issued ID (driver's license or passport)
  • A passport-style headshot
  • The $100 application fee, payable by card

OMMA processes most temporary license applications within 14 business days, but in practice many come back in 2–5 business days. The approval comes by email — same as the patient flow described in our approval email shopping guide.

What you can purchase

Once approved, you have the same buying rights as a standard Oklahoma medical patient for the duration of your 30 days:

  • 3 ounces of flower in possession outside the home
  • 72 ounces of edibles
  • 1 ounce of concentrate
  • 8 ounces of flower stored at your Oklahoma residence (rental, hotel, Airbnb)

Travel limits

What you can not do: take cannabis back across state lines. That's federal trafficking, regardless of either state's medical program. Plan to consume what you buy in Oklahoma during your visit, or leave it with a friend who's a resident patient.

Where to shop

Filter our directory for shops that have confirmed they accept out-of-state medical cards. Almost every Oklahoma dispensary accepts the temp license once issued, but it never hurts to call ahead — particularly in rural areas.

If you're staying in the major OK cities, you're spoiled for choice:

Renewals

The 30-day license is renewable if you're still in-state, but only once back-to-back. After that, OMMA wants you on a standard 2-year card if you're going to be a long-term patient.

The college and game-day angle

OU, OSU, and TU game weekends, the State Fair, and concerts at the BOK Center and Paycom Center all bring out-of-state patients looking for legal cannabis. The temp license is the legal path. Plan ahead — apply at least 5 business days before your trip so the approval email lands while you're packing.
