Medical marijuana is legal in Oklahoma. Voters approved State Question 788 in June 2018, and the Legislature built the rules around it. If you hold a valid card from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA), buying from a licensed dispensary is fully lawful under state law.
What’s legal
- Buying medical cannabis from an OMMA-licensed dispensary with a valid patient card.
- Possessing up to the state possession limits.
- Growing your own — 6 mature plants plus 6 seedlings per patient.
What’s still illegal
- Recreational (non-medical) use. SQ 820 failed in 2023; Oklahoma remains medical-only.
- Buying without a card. Dispensaries check for a valid card at the door.
- Public consumption, and driving impaired (see DUI rules).
How to buy legally
- Get an OMMA card — $100, valid two years, any condition.
- Find a licensed shop near you in the directory.
- Bring your card and a matching photo ID.
Visiting from out of state? You can get a 30-day temporary license using your home-state medical card.
