Oklahoma has one of the most accessible medical cannabis programs in the country. The process is mostly online, the wait is short, and as of January 2026 you don't even need the physical card to start shopping. Here's the full walk-through.
What you need before you start
To apply for an Oklahoma OMMA patient license, you'll need three things ready: a valid state-issued ID, a proof-of-residency document, and a recent passport-style photo. That's it. There's no qualifying-condition list in Oklahoma — any physician who's licensed in the state can recommend cannabis if they believe it'll help you.
Acceptable ID
- Oklahoma driver's license, state ID, tribal ID, or US passport
- Military ID (active duty or veteran)
Proof of residency
- A utility bill, bank statement, or rental agreement showing your Oklahoma address dated within the last 60 days
- An Oklahoma driver's license already satisfies this if the address is current

Step 1 — See an OMMA-licensed physician
You'll need a recommendation from an Oklahoma-licensed MD, DO, NP, or PA. Consults are typically $59 to $99 for new patients and $49 to $79 for renewals. Browse our Oklahoma cannabis doctors directory to find an in-person clinic or a virtual provider.
The visit takes 10–15 minutes. The physician will ask about your medical history and current conditions and decide if cannabis is reasonable. They'll then sign a recommendation form and email it to you — this is the document that unlocks the next step.
Step 2 — Submit the OMMA application
Head to oklahoma.gov/omma and create a patient account. You'll upload your ID, proof of residency, photo, and the physician recommendation. The application fee is $100, or $20 if you have Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare.
Make sure your email address is correct — that's where the approval will land.
Step 3 — Wait (and start shopping)
OMMA aims to process applications within 14 business days. Most patients get an approval email back within 5–10 days. As of January 2026, you can shop with that approval email alone — see our deep-dive on the approval email policy.
The physical card arrives in the mail a couple weeks after the email. Once you have it, you're set for two years (or one year, depending on what your physician signed for).
Step 4 — Find a dispensary
Oklahoma has thousands of OMMA-licensed dispensaries — more per capita than any other state. Browse our directory by city to find shops near you:
- Oklahoma City dispensaries
- Tulsa dispensaries
- Norman dispensaries
- Edmond dispensaries
- Broken Arrow dispensaries
- Every Oklahoma city
If you're a first-time patient, look for shops offering first-time-patient deals — most give 10–20% off the first purchase.
What you can purchase
As an Oklahoma medical patient you can buy and possess:
- 3 ounces of flower on your person, 8 ounces at home
- 72 ounces of edibles
- 1 ounce of concentrate
- 6 mature plants and 6 seedlings if home-growing
Renewals
OMMA cards are valid for two years (or one, if your physician chose that). Set a reminder 60 days before expiration — renewals follow the same steps but at a lower fee.
FAQ
Do I have to live in Oklahoma?
Yes for a standard 2-year card. If you're an out-of-state med patient visiting Oklahoma, you can apply for a 30-day temporary license instead.
Will my insurance cover the consult?
No. Cannabis is still federally illegal, so insurance can't reimburse cannabis-related consults. Most clinics offer their lowest rates upfront for cash or card.
Will an OMMA card affect my federal employment, gun rights, or driver's license?
Cannabis is still federally Schedule I, so federal employment with a security clearance, federally-licensed firearms purchase, and a CDL all interact with OMMA status. Talk to a lawyer if any of those apply to your situation.
The fastest path
If you want this done by next weekend: book a virtual consult today (search "virtual" on our doctors page), submit your OMMA application same-day with the $100 fee, then watch your inbox. Most patients are shopping within 10 days.
